***** DRAFT *****
Overview
Over the season, I covered TBD games, and I ended up delivering TBD photos, and TBD effects (posterized images, sketches, etc.) showing the players doing their best and having fun. Links to the password-protected galleries for each game can be found below:
- August 22, 2017 – Annandale HS vs. Hayfield HS (17 photos)
- September 8, 2017 – Annandale HS vs. Thomas Jefferson HS (66 photos)
And a few of the better shots are shown here (TBR):
- Nikon D500, 200 mm, Aperture Priority, f/3.5, 1/640 sec, ISO 252
- Nikon D500, 150 mm, Aperture Priority, f/3.5, 1/800 sec, ISO 252
- Nikon D500, 200 mm, Aperture Priority, f/3.5, 1/2000 sec, ISO 252

Lessons Learned
1. Microsoft Explorer File Compression Doesn’t (at least for JPEGs)
I tried to upload a ZIP file containing the 17 photos from the first JV game, and I was disappointed to learn that the ZIP file exceeded the 32 MB limit for uploads to my web server. I was surprised to learn that, because JPEG files are already compressed, if you put them in a compressed folder (a ZIP file), it will be about the same size as the total size of the original JPEG files, which in this case is about 73MB.
The Microsoft support site states the following:
- Some types of files, like JPEG images, are already highly compressed. If you zip several JPEG pictures into a folder, the total size of the folder will be about the same as the original collection of pictures.
This would have made it much more convenient for people to download a collection of photos from one of my photo galleries. I guess I need to look into whether I can pay more to my web host to have the 32 MB upload file size limit increased.
