We landed in Dublin, Ireland on the morning of Friday, June 2nd. And after some minor ‘adventures in travel’, we made it on to Manchester, UK on a beautiful afternoon. At Manchester, Mary picked up a rental car and drove us to the first stop on our trip, Arnside, a small town near the mouth of the River Kent.
We had reservations at a small Inn called Ye Olde Fighting Cocks. I couldn’t find information regarding the history of the building, but their tag line rings true – they ‘overlook nothing but the estuary’.
Here’s Patty at the sea wall. Our room was in the remodeled barn in the back.
Here were the views, both inside and out.
Before grabbing dinner, we did a quick stroll along the beach. The River Kent empties into Morecambe Bay out to the left.
Arnside is known for its tidal bore, a fast-rising tide that is due to the large size of Morecambe Bay, which narrows significantly at Arnside.
Here is the view looking west from the Arnside pier. They’re flying both the British colors, and the Ukranian.
And here is the view looking back into town, with all the shops and B&B’s along the beach.
We grabbed dinner at the Arnside Chip Shop, and we ate our Fish and Chips in the beer garden at Ye Olde Fighting Cocks.
In the background is the Arnside Viaduct, originally built in 1857 to carry train traffic over the River Kent.
After dinner, we strolled along the beach and the promenade, where I caught a few photos.
Evening along the sea wall.
And a subject appears just in time.
Life. Amazing.
And its source.
Looking back along the Promenade. The tide is obviously out, and we’re heading back to the hotel to call it a night.
