This is on the descent from the saddle between the 1,475 foot Beendarrig and the 3,281 foot Caher, the latter being Ireland’s third highest peak. Note the two hikers down below. Believe it or not, this is part of the Butter Road that was used as far back as the 1700’s to bring butter to the Butter Market in Cork for shipment around the world.

Day six included a 12.4 mile hike from Glenbeigh to Kell’s Bay, with a stunning cliff walk along an old stagecoach route at up to 1,000 feet over Dingle Bay.

After 5 days of hiking on the Kerry Way, we took a break and took a boat trip out 8 miles off the west coast of Ireland to Skellig Michael.

Today we started out from The Olde Forge B&B in Caherdaniel with a 3-mile taxi ride to The Old Staigue Fort, a ring fort overlooking Kenmare Bay that is believed to have been built in the first few centuries A.D.
Then the hike itself was to the village of Sneem, covering 7.4 miles, with 761 feet of ascent and miles of bog, which we covered in about 5.5 hours.

After lunch, we took a taxi the final 3 miles to The Parknasilla Hotel & Resort, where we relaxed in a hot tub overlooking Kenmare Bay. Nice!

Today we hiked into Killarney, to complete the Kerry Way. Then we picked up a rental car and drove to the village of Dingle, on the next peninsula to the north.
After touring the town of Dingle, we drove out to the western end of the peninsula, on what is called the Slea Head Drive, to catch part of the sunset.
Later, we checked out Saturday night in Dingle. We had a great dinner on the marina. And we hit several pubs with live entertainment. In particular, The Dingle Pub had a trio of twenty-something lads on guitar, banjo, and accordion that just … kicked … butt!
